After Broad Vision's presentation at the Subtle Technologies art/science festival in Toronto the previous week, it was fascinating to see the outcomes through an exhibition of artworks produced by students on the interdisciplinary programme.
Broad Vision, based at University of Westminster, is an art/science programme that brings together both students and staff from diverse disciplines to engage in collaborative exploration, exchanges and experimentation.
Howard Boland (C-LAB) facilitated the study for one the students, Sarah Farajallah (image above), visualising dead and living bacterial cells using staining agents known as Propidium Iodide (or PI) and DAPI (or . The fluorescent and confocal microscopy images shown at the exhibition combines the use of bacteria expressing green fluorescent proteins stained with PI, and results in an overlapping image where the dead cells are red and living green.
The exhibition is on show until the 17th June 2012 at London Gallery West, University of Westminster, Watford Road, Harrow, Middlesex HA1 3TP.
