An additional code in DNA has been found according to researchers (see: A genomic code for nucleosome positioning.).
Whilst the genetic code specifies all the protein that a cell makes, this additional code, superimposed on the first, sets the placement of the nucleosomes, miniature protein spools around which the DNA is looped. The spools both protect and control access to the DNA itself. Its confirmation could unravel insights to hierarchical control of genes.
