MUTAMORPHOSIS: CHALLENGING ARTS AND SCIENCES

The MutaMorphosis international conference was organized by CIANT as part of the  e n t e r 3 festival and in the framework of the Leonardo 40th anniversary. The ENTER festival ran from November 5 - 11 under the auspices of the Mayor of Prague Dr. Pavel Bém and United Nations Information Centre in Prague to feature performances, screenings and exhibitions, including the first retrospective exhibition of Frank J. Malina, renowned pioneer of light-kinetic art. 

c-lab presented The Martian Rose during the session Exo-Botany. The project looks at extreme conditions beyond Earth and features a rose exposed to Martian environment.

An intensive program included talks and presentations by Stelarc, Louis Bec, Roy Ascott, James Gimzewski, Victoria Vesna and pioneering crossbreeds of the art and science like Herbert W Franke, Woody Vasulka and Don Foresta.

Discussion where also held in seperate spaces, such as the Artists in Labs session in which current and past collaboration scenarios were shared. Many artists working in labs and organisers of these settings were present - Martha de Meneze, Adam Zaretsky, Bioteknika,  Ulla Taipale, Miriam van Rijsingen, Denisa Kera,...

Mutamorphosis Day 1 -

The conference had several exhibitions that allowed works discussed to be seen  between sessions. The Mayor of Prague had offered his private recidence for opening drinks and the city offered an otherwise curious old European setting for many smaller talks and discussions that ensued outside the conference.
