From Toy Glow to Industry Lumen - Genetic Entertainment sponsors Research

BioToy is a relatively new genetic entertainment company providing inexpensive toys that glows. Ever wanted glowing Alient Crystals or perhaps a Cricket Glowing Millennium Blaster - here's your chance...   
 



The company say that these products use natural ingredients found in the ocean's glowing creatures. At the bottom of their website it also states that the company is a subdivision of Prolume a company whose core business is based upon newly discovered genes from the deep water of marine bioluminence organisms.

Prolume Ltd has divisions that cover industry areas as broad as cosmetics, beverages, medical research  (with products such as TumorLightTM and CancerLightTM). Although it is not 100% clear from the website one of the subsections of indicates that  they are lacking funding to complete the development of technologies that could luminate cancer cells making tumors visible.

"We are hoping that our genetic entertainment company "BioToy®" will help pay for the research that enables "BioLightTM" to complete its mission."

For the UK - Prolume's distributor is called LUX Biotechnology which was founded in Edinburgh 2001 and perhaps with a far more serious looking website. Most notable of their products is GlowellTM - a device for calibration of photoic instruments by having a cold stable light without the need for batteries.

However, Lux Biotech's product range covers Novel Luciferase Vectors and proteins such as Gaussia luciferase and Renilla luciferase. Currently in the pipeline is also a Multi-coloured luciferase system.
